Noir Queen Kuweni

Year: 2025

A large-scale, 155-dancer contemporary historical ballet inspired by Kuweni, reimagining the origin myth of Sri Lanka through a dark, cinematic lens of power, betrayal, and psychological fracture. The production presents the “mind of Kuweni” as a shifting emotional landscape where memory, myth, and identity collide, transforming her story into a visceral exploration of a woman at the center of a collapsing world order. Through stark lighting, shadow-driven staging, and a noir-inspired aesthetic, this becomes less a historical retelling and more a haunting inner epic about erased voices.
